What does it mean to “believe upon Jesus Christ.”  If you believe then you would naturally DO his commandments and follow His Righteous Ways.

From the earliest days of the preaching of God’s Message through Jesus our Christ, people being baptized knew this was the beginning of a new way of life for them. They were completely serious about this and intent on following The Way and doing their best to be acceptable before God believing then that if they did their utmost He (God) and the Lord Jesus would cleanse them of their sins, set them aside (Sanctify, separate as a special, rare people) see them as just and even righteous, and receive them in God’s Kingdom on Earth. Eventually when the time is right for them, they shall enter into the Heavenly Kingdom.

They knew their commitment. They knew what it mean to “believe.” In those days there was no word “Christianity.” They called it “The Way.”
