Sabbath Keeping: Is It Right?

Jesus Teaching

Should We Keep Sabbath?

I received this morning a discussion and have answered it briefly. It should be brief because if I prattle on too long it will become another of my entirely too long books.

Alexander Chatman is with Dan Finney and 4 others.
The Genuine Offspring of the Union of the Holy Spirit and the Catholic Church His Spouse. The claims of Protestantism to Any Part Therein Proved to Be Groundless, Self-Contradictory, and Suicidal.
[From the Catholic Mirror of Sept. 2,1893]
Our attention has been called to the above subject in the past week by the receipt of a brochure of twenty-one pages published by the International Religious Liberty Association entitled, “Appeal and Remonstrance.” embodying resolutions adopted by the General Conference of the Seventh-day Adventists (Feb. 24, 1893).
The resolutions criticize and censure, with much acerbity, the action of the United States Congress, and of the Supreme Court, for invading the rights of the people by closing the World’s Fair on Sunday.
The Adventists are the only body of Christians with the Bible as their teacher, who can find no warrant in its pages for the change of day from the seventh to the first.
Hence their appellation, “Seventh-day Adventists”.
Their cardinal principle consists in setting apart Saturday for the exclusive worship of God, in conformity with the positive command of God Himself, repeatedly reiterated in the sacred books of the Old and New Testaments, literally obeyed by the children of Israel for thousands of years to this day and endorsed by the teaching and practice of the Son of God whilst on earth.
Per contra, the Protestants of the world, the Adventists excepted, with the same Bible as their cherished and sole infallible teacher, by their practice, since their appearance in the sixteenth century, with the time honored practice of the Jewish people before their eyes have rejected the day named for His worship by God and assumed in apparent contradiction of His command, a day for His worship never once referred to for that purpose, in the pages of that Sacred Volume.
(SN:  We shall keep in mind this was written in the year 1893.)

My Response:

I am thankful to see this. The 1st and Last paragraphs are written so well they can confuse nearly anyone.
So far as I know, Many more than the Adventists have said in simple English, “Where in the Bible are we told to keep Sunday?” Show me. No one has yet.
More to MY PERSONAL point of view, I don’t care what Martin Luther said. I want to know what God, before the Christ Jesus said. Jesus and the disciples kept Friday night to Saturday night and kept the ancient Holy Days as God commanded through Moses.
In the most beautiful, erudite language, the author a The Catholic Mirror writing the piece insists the Roman Catholic Sunday is the right day for worship. Everything else is suicidal!
Ask where this came from and finally, their highest scholars admit in writing, the Pope dreamed it up. It is not in the Bible. The author begins by stating that the RC is the ONLY Bride of Christ and eliminates everyone else. By that, one might define the entire RC Church as a cult. No one will be saved but them! (I think he might be wrong.)
“… the Protestants of the world, ….  with the time-honored practice of the Jewish people before their eyes have rejected the day named for His worship by God….
It’s a beautifully written and very long circuitous sentence. It omits to mention that “the Protestants of the world” are many and most that branched away from Martin Luther continue to keep Sunday, as Luther did. Luther was a Catholic Priest and apparently was influenced to maintain Sunday.
An odd “remnant” of people keep the way spoken by Moses. Some are Jews. Some are other “protestant” believers.
Everyone will get a rebuke and correction about their doctrine when God finally meets us seated upon His throne. In the meantime, The Adventists, those who came out of the World Wide Church of God, several believers, some cults, and some honest churches, have come to the terrible conclusion that they were deceived.
Sunday is NOT the day God commanded. He said, “Remember the Sabbath Day to keep it Holy.” Keep in memory the Sabbath and let it be a holy day. 9 On six days do all your work: 10 But the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God; on that day you are to do no work, you or your son or your daughter, your man-servant or your woman-servant, your cattle or the man from a strange country who is living among you: 11 For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, and the sea, and everything in them, and he took his rest on the seventh day: for this reason the Lord has given his blessing to the seventh day and made it holy.
Jesus said, Sabbath is made for man, not man for the Sabbath. At times he was pressed about this and said it would be reasonable to heal someone or help a trapped or injured animal. He never made it into what some Orthodox Jews have made of it. It was not intended to be drudgery in the extreme. It was meant to be a celebration of and thanksgiving to God, and a day to rest, study scripture, and remember and be thankful to He who created all life and all the Universe.
I cannot find anything in any Bible including The King James which was first published in the 15th Century (not 16th!) and the translation of it began for The Church of England in 1604 and was completed in 1611. As for the origins of that first Bible, we must return to the earliest “Church Fathers”.

Can we trust all of it? That is debated. Why 66 books (a Satanic number) and not 77? Where are the Book of Enoch, The Book of Adam, and several others? But, we have enough. The Bible interprets itself and explains itself if one is willing to learn it and decipher some of the encoded messages.
We do not find any edict from God to keep Sunday. We find a warning instead that a dark figure will come to preach another Christ, another Gospel and seek to change times, dates, Holy Days and laws. He is coming very soon. It appears he is here and waiting to be revealed. Be careful whom you believe and be sure of whom you will serve. Your eternity is at stake.
