In recent decades, it seems that every few years someone comes along with a new prediction of the catastrophic end of the world as we know it. And then those predictions prove false.
This problem of failed prophecy has plagued many religions for thousands of years. People predicting Jesus Christ’s return have set dates, then shifted the dates when those dates came and went. Some have subsequently adopted theories that Jesus Christ has returned secretly. But most have just grown uncomfortable with the entire subject of end-time prophecy, and they have pushed it far into the background. Though headlines about prophecy are circulating again, Bible prophecy is still widely considered a fringe subject.
Doctrinally, different Christian groups hold very different views regarding the end of the world. The spectrum runs from vociferous street-corner preachers to scoffers whose views are virtually secular and who disbelieve altogether the return of Christ. Bible bookstores stock numerous publications attempting to explain end-time prophecy, interpreting the mystery of various prophetic symbols, with one book contradicting the next.
But prophecy is right there in the Bible. That’s where the phrase “time of the end” comes from. The Old Testament prophets prophesied. The New Testament apostles prophesied. Jesus Christ Himself prophesied. In fact, He explicitly prophesied about the end time and the end of the world.
What the Bible Says
In the Bible, “the time of the end” describes the period leading up to the return of Jesus Christ. It denotes the period just prior to the end of civilizations ruled by men and the beginning of Christ’s rule over the Earth. The Bible describes this period as filled with unprecedented violence—violence that almost annihilates all human life.
That is why people think of Bible prophecy when they see news reports about terrorism, religious clashes, trade wars, radical regimes and weapons of mass destruction.
Bible prophecies, including those spoken by Christ Himself, give specific signs indicating when human history is approaching that fearsome time.
Jesus was a prophet. He prophesied throughout His ministry. Just before He was crucified, in His most crucial prophetic message, the “Olivet prophecy,” Jesus said, “And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth … see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. … Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh: So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors” (Matthew 24:30, 32-33).
For Christians who believe Jesus Christ, there is no escaping this fact: He personally predicted that He would supernaturally return and that there would be signs immediately preceding that event—signs we should watch for.
In this same prophecy, Jesus made this crucial clarification: “But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only” (verse 36). Be wary when you hear someone predicting a specific date of Christ’s return. But also be wary of anyone who tells you there is no way to know. Christ said plainly that we should be able to recognize signs “that it is near, even at the doors” (verse 33). God has not revealed the date, but He has revealed a number of signs.
Here are four specific signs the Bible gives to know that the return of Jesus Christ is near. What makes these so important is that all four of them have already been fulfilled.
Sign One
“And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?” (Matthew 24:3). The disciples specifically asked Jesus Christ when He would return. How did He answer? He did not say, Do not worry about such things, or No man can know the decade or the century. He answered by giving specific signs to watch for.
“And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet” (verse 6). Christ said that wars and rumors of wars would spread, but these of themselves were not signs of His return. He then said that “there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in diverse places. All these are the beginning of sorrows” (verses 7-8).
So when you see wars and rumors of wars increasing—and you see famines, pestilences and earthquakes increasing—do not pretend everything is normal. Sit up and take notice!
When you see the oceans dying, what more evidence can you want for a sign of the end? Go HERE for more about that.
Jesus then explained a specific sequence of events leading to a nightmare scenario that He called “great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be” (verse 21). This is not just a war or a rumor of a war. This is a catastrophic world war on a scale that human beings have never before experienced!
The two worst wars in history occurred during the 20th century. World War i caused more than 15 million deaths. World War ii caused more than 60 million deaths—and by its conclusion, the world had entered the age of weapons of mass destruction.
The two atomic bombs that ended World War ii are weak compared to the weapons human beings have developed since. The most powerful bomb ever exploded was detonated in 1961 and was thousands of times more powerful than either of those explosions. Today, there are an estimated 10,000 nuclear warheads ready for launch, with accurate delivery systems that can reach around the world. There are thousands more chemical and biological weapons and billions if not trillions of pounds of conventional ordnance and ammunition.
In the first century a.d., when the closest thing to a weapon of mass destruction was cyanide in a cistern or a torch thrown on a thatch roof, Jesus Christ prophesied that prior to His return, human beings would be capable of annihilating every last man, woman and child.
We are now living in a time like no other in history, when the next world war could cause the extinction of humanity. Learn more about this prophecy by requesting Nuclear Armageddon Is ‘At the Door,’ by Gerald Flurry.
This was a sign from Jesus Christ Himself of His imminent return. And it has already happened.
Sign Two
Jesus gave another sign of His return, recorded in Matthew 17. Here, He was transfigured before three of His disciples. This was an incredible experience for them. They believed He was the Son of God, of course, but here was a dazzling vision that not only confirmed this but actually showed them what He will look like at His Second Coming.
After seeing an advance vision of the most important event in human history, what did the disciples immediately think of? An intriguing question formed in their minds. After the transfiguration, the first question they asked Jesus was: “Why then do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?” (Matthew 17:10; New King James Version).
They were referring to a specific Old Testament prophecy, recorded in Malachi 4:5: “Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord.” Five hundred years earlier, God had prophesied that—before the dreadful cataclysms preceding Christ’s glorious return—He would send “Elijah the prophet,” or a man who would come in the power and spirit of Elijah, to prepare the way.
The disciples regarded this as a powerful, pivotal prophecy. It was the first thing they thought of after seeing a vision of Jesus Christ’s dazzling return!
And how did Jesus answer them? That prophecy was fulfilled long ago. Or: That prophecy is not for human understanding. Or: Focus on morals—focusing on prophecy will only confuse you. Not at all! He confirmed what Malachi had prophesied and what the scribes and the disciples believed—and He added a related prophecy of His own:
“Elias [Elijah] truly shall first come, and restore all things” (Matthew 17:11). “Elijah truly shall first come.” Yes, what Malachi prophesied is true. Yes, his prophecy applies to my future return, which you just saw in a vision. Not only that, but this man, the Elijah who will come in the end time, will restore all things.
Jesus gave the disciples an additional identifier—recorded and preserved in the Bible—regarding this Elijah-type individual: He would “restore all things.” When Jesus Christ returns, He will restore all things to the whole world (Acts 3:19-21). Yet He Himself said that this “Elijah” would restore all things. How would that be possible? Because God would use this individual to restore all things, the truth of the Bible, to God’s Church.
So Jesus Christ Himself said that He would return in power and glory to rule all nations. He said that prior to His return, there would come a dreadful “Day of the Lord.” He said that before that day, there would come a man like Elijah. He said this man would restore all things—meaning all foundational biblical doctrines—to His Church. But very few Christians even attempt to explain this prophecy, even though it was spoken by Jesus Christ Himself!
Yet there was a man in the 20th century who taught this prophecy toward the end of his 57-year ministry. He had started out not as a seminarian but as a businessman largely uninterested in religion. Through circumstances and forces beyond his control, he was brought to an intensive study of the Bible and then a penetrating repentance.
There he found numerous scriptural teachings that directly contradicted the doctrines of mainstream Christianity:
- why God made human beings,
- the nature of God,
- why God made angels,
- the origins of the devil and demons,
- the weekly day of worship,
- what really happens after death,
- the meaning of the biblically mandated festivals,
- the true gospel,
- why God allows suffering,
- the purpose for the Church,
- ancient Israel’s modern identity, the key to Bible prophecy,
and a host of others. These doctrines can be proved from the Bible, they fit together with each other, and they match what Jesus Christ and the disciples had taught.
This man was Herbert W. Armstrong (1892–1986). He reestablished biblical doctrines that had been lost to Christianity for centuries. He proclaimed a strong warning to the modern descendants of the ancient Israelites, much like the Prophet Elijah had done 3,000 years ago. Toward the end of his life, he recognized that the fruits of his ministry had fulfilled Jesus Christ’s prophecy of an end-time type of Elijah.
Looking at the world today and what has lately transpired in the life of Mr. Armstrong one is left with the logical conclusion, “It can’t be anyone else yet to come. We have run out of time!”
Herbert W. Armstrong was the end-time Elijah character for which Christendom has waited for these past over 2015 years!. This is a bold statement to make: I challenge you to prove it for yourself. You can find far more information proving this truth by reading our new booklet on the subject: A Pivotal Sign of the End Time.
The coming of an Elijah who would “restore all things” is indeed a pivotal sign that we are in the end time. Just like the sign of weapons of mass destruction, this sign of an Elijah was given by Jesus Christ Himself. And, just like that sign, this one has already occurred!
Sign Three
In Matthew 24, Jesus Christ gave more signs of what would occur before His return. Among these descriptions, one statement flashes like a lightning bolt: “And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come” (verse 14).
Consider the radical implications of this clear, direct statement. Christianity has existed as a religion for 2,000 years since Jesus’s lifetime. It is the world’s largest religion. The New Testament has been translated into more than 1,500 languages, and Christian churches have gone to extraordinary lengths over those 20 centuries to preach its message in all nations.
So how could the gospel being preached in all the world be a sign of the end? Christ’s statement could only mean that the message being proclaimed by all those churches worldwide is not the true gospel!
The word gospel is used (improperly) to refer to the record of Jesus Christ’s life in the biblical books of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. But its correct meaning is the message of Jesus Christ. The gospel message preached by billions of Catholics, Protestants and others over the centuries has been a gospel about Christ. It’s been “the legend of Jesus.” It has been a message proclaiming that Jesus Christ was the Son of God and died to pay for the sins of humanity. It’s immediately followed with
Romans 10:9 New King James Version (NKJV)
9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.
Thus…. most “Christians” did their 15-second prayer and think they got a free ticket to eternal retirement in “Heaven.” They don’t study, they don’t change their ways, they believe anything told to them by any YouTube character, pastor or priest without studying to confirm it themselves. They don’t get words defined so they really don’t know what is being said. Many have never once opened a Bible and found their way to a scriptural passage. Today one of the biggest Mega Churches in Texas has a preacher who often says, “The scripture says….” and never gives a reference. How do we know what it says if he doesn’t give a reference? If he says “God wants to make you rich” is that right. Does the Eternal have anything more important on his mind than making you rich?
But this is not the gospel Jesus Christ preached, and it is not the gospel He said would signal His return!
Jesus Christ was the Son of God and did die to pay the death penalty for human sin, but that is not His gospel message.
The gospel message He Himself preached is the gospel of the coming Kingdom of God! It was that establishment of God’s rule over mankind will revolutionize the world and the universe (Mark 1:14-15; Matthew 9:35; Luke 4:43; 9:1-2, etc). I challenge you NOW call or email, FB Message, tweet, anyway you please to 20 people and see if any of them can tell you the true message Jesus The Christ passed from God through his lips to the world? Try it. See what happens! Ask any of them “how should we define “of” in the phrase “Gospel of Jesus Christ” and see what they say! That discussion is on this website.
Many scriptures actually describe the emergence of false gospel messages after Christ’s crucifixion and resurrection (e.g. Galatians 1:8-9). In fact, false Christianity is another one of the signs that Christ’s coming is approaching (Revelation 6:2). Christians have misunderstood Christ, misunderstood His message, and therefore the gospels they have taught are flawed. Satan has actually counterfeited Christ’s message and His Church! (2 Corinthians 11:13-14). And if you did deep enough into what has been going on with The Papacy and especially nowadays you’ll be left shocked, dazed, confused — yes I’m not being poet. I mean it! Billions believe Catholicism is The True Religion but most of them have never opened a Bible in their lives!!! Where is the logic? Can anyone imagine billions being deceived? It’s the most magnificent crime in human history!
Jesus Christ’s Church has endured, sometimes persecuted, beaten and bowed but never broken for more than 2,000 years since His first coming—as He promised it would (Matthew 16:18). That church has not become a nation, nor an empire-dominating religious force of millions of people blending in the doctrines of many belief systems. It has not become a fractured coalition of thousands of independent churches with differing beliefs. It has been small and persecuted. And it had not preached any gospel to all the world. The day when the entire world knows that Jesus the Christ spoke God’s words through him about a coming Kingdom and God returning as King is yet to come. It will come as a shock to most of the world.
But in the 20th century, a time of increasing dangers and weapons of mass destruction, God used an end-time Elijah to restore all things—including the gospel message of the Kingdom of God. The message is out here, we few can hear it, read it and pass it on. But I tell you, few (as in days past) will receive it thankfully. Most will reject it and even reject God, reject the creator of their lives, and many are to this moment promoting human life as cheap and that unborn children (even newly born children) are seen as inconvenient and worthless! Such a societal view, broadly disseminated, is a sign of the coming end of that society. If this message is accepted broadly across much of the world, it will be a sign of the end of world-wide society!
Herbert W. Armstrong learned the truth, was so struck by it, he changed his life path. We went from the proud and prosperous young businessman to the preacher of the same gospel that Jesus Christ preached—and did so “in all the world for a witness” for the first time in almost 2,000 years! Herbert W. Armstrong preached that message to tens of thousands of members of the Worldwide Church of God, to millions of World Tomorrow radio listeners and television viewers, and to millions of Plain Truth readers. He also traveled extensively to deliver his message personally—and not only to everyday people and those in poverty in various countries.
Mr. Armstrong personally met more than 500 heads of state, heads of government and other world leaders. Those he met included Britain’s Prince Charles and Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, King Leopold iii of Belgium, First Lady of the United States Nancy Reagan, King Juan Carlos i of Spain, Chinese Premier Deng Xiaoping, Ethiopian Emperor Haile Selassie, King Hussein of Jordan, Egyptian presidents Anwar Sadat and Hosni Mubarak, Otto von Habsburg, Bavarian Premier Franz Josef Strauss, the emperor, crown prince and seven successive prime ministers of Japan, and six prime ministers and three presidents of Israel. He also met the presidents, prime ministers or kings of Argentina, Bangladesh, Chile, Costa Rica, Guatemala, India, Indonesia, Kenya, Lebanon, Mexico, Nepal, the Netherlands, Panama, Peru, the Philippines, Romania, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam, as well as dozens of ambassadors, plus numerous cabinet ministers, legislators, governors, mayors, generals, judges and other representatives, as well as chief executives, college presidents, musicians, artists, athletes, Nobel Prize winners and other leaders of industry and culture.
Many of these leaders contacted him first and invited him! They met him privately in their offices, conversed with him several times and invited him to speak to other important individuals. Some of these meetings were covered by national news media. Other leaders he met at banquets or formal meetings in which he was frequently the guest of honor and keynote speaker. Some legislators, mayors, professors, princesses and kings accompanied him on the corporate jet he used to convene with other world leaders or to visit Ambassador College, where some of them enrolled their children. Some of these leaders referred to Mr. Armstrong as an “ambassador without portfolio” whose commission was world peace.
I’ll stop for a moment again and remind you: He didn’t run a mega church. He never requested donations. He did not live the life of a very wealthy man. What he wrote he gave away at no charge. Compare that to today’s “preachers” and what do you think?
When Mr. Armstrong first started receiving invitations to these meetings, he didn’t know exactly why this was happening. But he then realized that this was God spreading the gospel message of the Kingdom of God to the whole world as a witness. He wrote in a Sept. 17, 1982, letter to Church supporters, “Jesus’s sign we are near the end of this world (Matthew 24:14), which you have backed me in proclaiming to the world—the gospel of the Kingdom of God—has been going to the world in great power!”
You can prove from your own Bible what is that true “gospel of the kingdom of God” that Jesus Christ emphasized in Matthew 24:14.
Mr. Armstrong wrote an entire book about it, called The Incredible Human Potential. As with all our other literature, the church Mr. Armstrong developed by God’s guidance even today after his passing still will gladly send you a free copy. You can download it in a minute as a PDF to your desktop and read it starting today! and you should! It’ll give you a hope for your future. It will change your life and it’s available without any request for a donation. Take a moment, click the link. Get it free of charge right now.
Weapons and diseases and ratiation poisoning threatening all human life, the coming of a man to restore all things, and the preaching of the true gospel around the world are all signs that Jesus Christ Himself said would immediately precede His return. And all three of these signs have occurred.
The existence of weapons that can annihilate humanity is a sign Jesus gave that everyone in the world can see. The sign of an end-time Elijah and the sign of the true gospel being preached around the world are signs that require you to focus on God’s Church. Not on a mega church not on people entertaining masses of people every sunday. No! not that. Focus on sane thoughtful people who preach the truth as best we can understand it from The Bible. I think you’ll have to finally admit what these people teach is the truth.
There is another major sign of Jesus Christ’s return that concerns God’s Church. It is a prophecy written by the Apostle Paul roughly 20 years after Jesus Christ had been crucified and resurrected, and it concerns the timing of His future return. To Church members in Thessalonica, {}
he wrote, “Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him, That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand” (2 Thessalonians 2:1-2).
I want you to have this passage and I recommend you open your bible or go to it online and read then entire chapter.
2 Thessalonians 2 New International Version (NIV)
The Man of Lawlessness
2 Concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our being gathered to him,we ask you, brothers and sisters, 2 not to become easily unsettled or alarmed by the teaching allegedly from us—whether by a prophecy or by word of mouth or by letter—asserting that the day of the Lord has already come. 3 Don’t let anyone deceive you in any way, for that day will not come until the rebellion occurs and the man of lawlessness[a] is revealed, the man doomed to destruction. 4 He will oppose and will exalt himself over everything that is called God or is worshiped, so that he sets himself up in God’s temple, proclaiming himself to be God.
5 Don’t you remember that when I was with you I used to tell you these things?6 And now you know what is holding him back, so that he may be revealed at the proper time. 7 For the secret power of lawlessness is already at work; but the one who now holds it back will continue to do so till he is taken out of the way. 8 And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus will overthrow with the breath of his mouth and destroy by the splendor of his coming. 9 The coming of the lawless one will be in accordance with how Satan works. He will use all sorts of displays of power through signs and wonders that serve the lie, 10 and all the ways that wickedness deceives those who are perishing. They perish because they refused to love the truth and so be saved. 11 For this reason God sends thema powerful delusion so that they will believe the lie 12 and so that all will be condemned who have not believed the truth but have delighted in wickedness. (underlining is my emphasis. Friend, if the Holy Spirit is being ordered to allow the deceptions to come, truly the return of Jesus the Messiah is very soon. At some point the Holy Spirit will withdraw and some believe when he leaves he must take the truly faithful with Him! Just look at the news and the rancor about religion and and politics and this indicates (at least to me) we have run out of time! To you a year may seem like a long time. To God it is nothing. For me, base on my personal calculations I expect something extraordinary to happen in year 2022 and 2025. We might define the time span between now and then as “very soon; even at the door”.
This passage of scripture is revealing. In Paul’s lifetime, there were people who believed that Christ would return, but they were saying that He could return at any moment, and this was troubling the true Christians Paul was ministering to. They were in danger of being deceived by false Christianity. So he explained another specific sign God had given that had to happen first: a “falling away.”
“Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God” (verses 3-4).
What a remarkable and troubling sign of Christ’s imminent return! Writing to true Christians, Paul said that inside the New Testament “temple”—the Church (e.g., Ephesians 2:19-22)—an extremely wicked leader would rise up, and there would be a great falling away: many true Christians forsaking God!
As discussed, God used Herbert W. Armstrong to restore foundational truths to His true Church. God used him to preach the gospel to all nations as a witness. And after Mr. Armstrong died in 1986, new leadership took over. These leaders deliberately rejected the doctrines Mr. Armstrong had restored, one after another, and subtly but progressively transformed the Church into a Protestant group. They stopped printing books and booklets authored by Mr. Armstrong, shut down the Church’s broadcast programs, and ended its educational and cultural projects. They even sold off its assets. This was led by one man in particular who used oppressive and deceitful methods to influence ministers and members.
This was the “falling away” (of church members) prophesied by the Apostle Paul! And it has happened!
But more is coming as we see. Young people are being taught that God is mythology and that the modern “evolutionary fantasy” is the truth. But there is NO scientific evidence to absolutely prove the evolutionary thesis holds any credence. I say it’s a lie from start to finish. This website has plenty of scientific evidence, many articles and links to video, supporting good science which proves “evolution” is nonsense.
This shocking history is recorded in our book Raising the Ruins, by Trumpet executive editor Stephen Flurry. And the biblical, prophetic history of this prophesied “great falling away” is revealed in Malachi’s Message, the founding book of this organization, authored by Trumpet editor in chief Gerald Flurry.
Despite the falling away that Paul spoke of, the work of God did not stop. Gerald Flurry founded the Philadelphia Church of God to continue to teach the doctrines Mr. Armstrong had restored. The Philadelphia Church of God reprinted Mr. Armstrong’s most important books, including Mystery of the Ages. The Worldwide Church of God (reformed by these nefarious charactors) sued the The Philadelphia Church of God for the express purpose of suppressing Mr. Armstrong’s teachings. During the ensuing six-year copyright lawsuit, the The Philadelphia Church of God fought to continue Mr. Armstrong’s legacy. Raising the Ruins is based on a trove of documents, including private memos, obtained during the discovery process of the copyright litigation. And the book also tells the story of how this work is reviving Mr. Armstrong’s legacy.
- Weapons of mass destruction.
- An end-time Elijah.
- The true gospel preached around the world.
- The true Church splitting apart.
These are four signs of Jesus Christ’s return that God inspired to be recorded and miraculously preserved in the Bible for 2,000 years. Today, they have all been fulfilled! These four specific signs, along with many others, show for certain that Jesus Christ is not just going to return, but He is going to return soon.
But wait! There’s More!
German’s Chancellor since 2005 Andrea Merkel goes out in about 18 months and surely I predict Karl T. zu Gutenberg will replace her and Baron zu Gutenberg will be the King who launches a war in the Middle East. This takes us close to JULY 2020. I had calculated something huge would happen in 2018 and I think the US recognizing Israel as a country and Jerusalem as its capital was that event. I have been expecting something monumental around 2021. I won’t surprised if something big is happening in 2020 — like for example the 3rd Temple is rebuilt and a year later someone extremely important might take a seat on his own throne on the left wing of that temple! I named this website with the ending number 2022 because I expect something monumental to happen in that year.
Amidst all of this Russia has alliances with Iran and Turkey and others. Russia wants the oil and gas Israel has. This is the prophecy about Asher.
Deuteronomy 33:24 New International Version (NIV) 24 About Asher he said: “Most blessed of sons is Asher; let him be favored by his rothers, and let him bathe his feet in oil.
This is going to turn into a war and when it’s over possibly Damascus will be a heap of ruin. Add 3.5 years to 2018 and you land where? You land in the middle of 2022 close to the date that the US Embassy was opened in Jerusalem. Add 3.5 years more and I think the game is over. That leaves me to surmise; IF there is going to be a Pre-Tribulation rapture it’s likely to be in mid 2022. But who knows with a certainly? No one knows.
